Your garden in November
4 of the 32 species in our plant database ask something of you in November. Everything else in the garden can be left alone, which is half of what a calendar is for.
Most monthly garden advice is written for nobody's garden. It says "prune shrubs" in a month when pruning half of them costs you next year's flowers. What follows is the November row of our own Garden year: each job attached to the plant that asks for it, from the same database the Dossier is built from.

| Olive (Olea europaea) | Mulch the young olive with 5 cm of gravel, kept clear of the trunk. |
| Field maple (Acer campestre) | Plant or move it now — bare-root season runs to the end of February. |
| Golden oats (Stipa gigantea) | Cut the Stipa back to 20 cm once the seed heads have collapsed. |
| Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) | Plant bare-root now: this month or the next, never in spring. |

What not to do
- 01Do not plant into a hole full of standing water. Mound instead.
- 02Do not stake a tree rigidly or high. A little movement builds the trunk.
